The General Manager of Camair-Co, Alex Van Elk paid a courtesy visit yesterday at the Headquarters of African Synergy Against HIV and Suffering.
The General Manager of Cameroon Airlines Corporation (Camair Co), Alex Van Elk, yesterday October 18, visited the headquarters of African Synergy Against HIV/Suffering; a non-governmental organisation, founded by Cameroon’s First Lady, Chantal Biya, which comprises of First Ladies from Africa and other continents. During the visit, which lasted close to an-hour, Alex Van Elk and the Executive Secretary of African Synergy, Jean-Stéphane Biatcha, discussed possible partnership agreement which will gear towards meeting the objectives of African Synergy such as intensifying sensitisation and educative campaigns against HIV. Alex Van Elk is optimistic that the draft framework of the partnership agreement between Camair-Co and African Synergy will be accepted by the Board of Directors of Camair-Co when submitted.
After going round the premises of African Synergy, Alex Van Elk said, as a National Airlines, he feels they have an obligation to the welfare and wellbeing of Cameroonians other than just being an airline to facilitate air transport. Noting that the initiatives of African Synergy are worth emulating, the Camair-Co boss added that his company wants to fully support First Ladies in relieving patients from their suffering, dispel the aguish of distressed mothers, and protect the future of orphans amongst other things. Alex Van Elk said “this is my first visit to African Synergy and I hope to make many more visits which will follow with concrete actions and not just words”. Besides facilitating travelling means for African Synergy workers, support special events organised by African Synergy, Alex Van Elk said they are out to support African Synergy in whatever way possible.
Jean-Stéphane Biatcha said African Synergy is honoured by the visit of Alex Van Elk, especially as they never knew he was following-up the activities of the organisation with deep interest. African Synergy had an agreement with the former Cameroon Airlines in the sensitisation of its staff against HIV. With the current visit of the General Manager of Camair-Co, Jean-Stephane Biatcha hopes it is a gate-way for Camair-Co to continue the sensitisation campaign against HIV, which is a major objective of the Pan-African NGO of First Ladies. Jean-Stephane Biatcha and Alex Van Elk will henceforth create a team which will work on the framework of corporation between both organs.
