Supreme Court Rules On Petitions Today

The Supreme Court of Cameroon is currently hearing petitions filed by opposition parties against the October 9 election.

The Supreme Court of Cameroon, sitting in for the yet-t-be-set up Constitutional Council has since this morning from 9 am been meeting in Yaounde to rule on 20 petitions lodged by ten political parties that took part in the October 9 presidential election and an association. The petitions are seeking the partial or outright cancellation of the election results.

Today’s session of the court is in prelude to the imminent announcement of the presidential election results by the Supreme Court (in the place of the Constitutional Council).

Prior to today’s court session, some aggrieved political parties that took part in the election had called on the public to carry out protest marches against what they consider as irregularities in the election. But authorities have warned against any such move, cautioning the people to go about their normal activities.
