The Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, for Upper Nkam Division in the West Region, Mr. Haman Dahirou has stressed the importance of development of human resources, insisting that PNDP's development measures remain the foundation of the country’s economic growth.

Mr. Haman Dahirou was speaking in Bana, Upper Nkam Division on October 17 while opening the second phase of a seven-day workshop organized by National Community-driven Development Programme, PNDP. The workshop is aimed at training mayors, council secretary generals and paymasters and council technical from some councils in the West Region on better management of council resources.

The SDO maintained that the proper training of council staff and their mayors will help to avoid haphazard development and management programmes often put in place by mayors and their collaborators who do not have expert knowledge in identifying good development projects that can meet the aspirations of the population.

He said the PNDP put in place by the Government of Cameroon since 2005 with the aim of implementing approved development programmes for local communities has to an expand and meet their aspirations of the target population. He called on the participants to use the workshop to identify their problems and seek solutions to them during the workshop that ends on October 22, 2011.

Earlier, the representative of the Regional Coordinator of PNDP, Mrs Cheguem Elizabeth Nzuno, expressed the wish to see workshop have far-reaching impact on the socio-economic development of councils involved. Mrs Elizabeth said the workshop will assist participants in their task of better management of the small means and human resources at their control. She called on participants to take advantage of the presence of PNDP and other experts in council management to learn from them.
