Yaounde: Suspected Thieves Caught With Stolen Vehicle

The two men who reportedly had fake vehicle documents are now in police custody.

The Centre Regional Division of the Judicial Police, Yaounde now has in its custody two suspected thieves said to be specialised in stealing and selling vehicles in Douala, Yaounde and Equatorial Guinea.

The two men upon arrest on Tuesday October 18 were said to have been in possession of falsified sale documents of the stolen vehicle and a fraudulent registration certificate. After interrogation, Atouba Minlama, claimed the car belonged to his wife. The other gang members from Douala were already on their way to collect the stolen vehicle when the investigation unit of the Centre Regional Judicial Police stopped the transaction

Atouba Minlama and Nsangou Jounedou are said to have confirmed the existence of a parking lot on the border between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea in the town of Kye-Ossi where the stolen cars are kept before being transported to Equatorial Guinea.

Further investigations are going on to trace the other vehicles which could be in their possession. Meanwhile, radio announcements have been made to inform the owner of the stolen car to come for it. The arrested men are expected to be taken to court soon to answer for their act.

Reports of stolen cars in Yaounde and Douala are regular and identification of the vehicles becomes difficult as they are re-painted and the registration numbers changed.
