New Deal Cup Kicks off in Yaounde

The competition which began on October 15, will end on November 6, 2011.

The third edition of the New Deal Cup organised by the Yaounde III council in partnership with the Bonamoussadi Sports Association kicked off on Saturday October 15 at the New Deal stadium of the University of Yaounde I, with Asian Contractors and West Germany clubs setting the ball rolling. The encounter which also served as the final of the 5th edition of the holiday football championship christened Ndamba Liga, saw the Asian Contractors who won the Nomis Cup, carry the day 4-0. The kick off was given by the representative of the Mayor of Yaounde III and chief of Obili quarter, Tsoungui. The mayor’s representative said he was pleasantly surprised by the popular appeal of the competition which he said could serve as a necessary for football talents, saying the Yaounde III council will do more next year to consolidate the achievements of the competition.

The president of the Bonamoussadi Sports Association, Mbeng Bruno said, the New Deal Cup was organised to match with the commemoration of President Biya’s 29th anniversary at the helm of power on the 6th of November. He said the association has two objectives; the nurturing of football talents and encouraging youths to embark on agriculture since he says, not every one of them will thrive in football. In this vane, the association which regroups more than 200 members has opened a farm in Wum and is presently negotiating land to open another farm in Yaounde. On the football aspect, promising talents are admitted into the Caysa football Academy, sponsored by the Yaounde III council. The academy will be taking part in the national under-15 competition for the first time this year. The President of the Bonamoussadi Sports Association however appealed for help from all Cameroonians of goodwill saying the association now relies only on the contribution of members and the sacrifices of the president to function. He expressed gratitude to their sponsors; Yaounde III Council and Nomis Company who have promised to do more next year to give the competition, the pomp and pageantry it deserves.
