Mbanga: CPDM Celebrates Victory, Thanks Voters

The victory triggered celebrations in Mbanga in Moungo Division of Littoral Region, an opposition stronghold.

The governing Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) party celebrated its presidential election victory in the Moungo South Section, Moungo Division of Littoral Region over the week-end. After securing 66 per cent in last October 9 polls, up from less than 50 per cent in 2004 in Mbanga and Fiko Subdivisions, the party’s section officials rallied the Moungo South Section people to thank them for returning President Paul Biya and the CPDM party to power with a massive vote.

The celebration was accompanied by fanfare. Moungo South Section President, Hon. Jean Claude Mpacko, said the celebration was organized to extend their appreciation to the population, especially militants and supporters of the CPDM for choosing incumbent President Paul Biya for the next seven years. He said he also passed on President Paul Biya’s thank you message and encouragement to all Cameroonians to work together for greater accomplishments in his next term of office.

Speaking over the week-end at the Mbanga Grand Stand, Hon. Jean Claude Mpacko said: “This was a very good result for CPDM, winning 66 per cent of the vote. It is the result of the hard work that our campaign team put in. This great result should be a catalyst for change, not a cause for complacency. CPDM has a lot of thinking to do in the years ahead, but this is a confident and solid step forward for us.”

“The CPDM spent the last campaign weeks telling us that its policies have changed for good, and that it will now spend the next seven years in infrastructural accomplishments, job provision. I want to assure our President that Moungo South is always going to be a safe CPDM base,” said one of the party’s supporters, Maximilien Njombe. Other parties that supported the CPDM at the polls joined in the celebration. An ANDP militant testified: “CPDM carried out a positive campaign, presenting itself in the election as the party of jobs, fairness and the future.”

The CPDM’s successful door-to-door campaign strategy really helped in winning the election. By polling day, Mpacko and his campaign teams had spoken to thousands of voters. “We were able to identify the big issues in the campaign and talk to people about what really matters to them,” he told Cameroon Tribune.
