Literature: Bole Butake Wins Another Lifetime Award

He will this December 2011 be handed honouring inscription and some money as winner of the Eko Prize in honour of his literary works.

The Vice Dean for Programming and Academic Affairs and Head of Department of Arts and Archaeology in the University of Yaounde I, Prof. Bole Butake, was recently awarded another lifetime achievement prize. He was on October 14, declared the maiden winner of the Eko Prize for Literature in Cameroon.

The press release issued from organizers states that it is in recognition of Prof. Butake’s lifetime literary achievements and significant impact on Literature in Cameroon. For this, he wins a cash prize of 1,000 US dollars (approximately FCFA 500,000) and a commemorative plaque on which his name is inscribed.

The Eko Prize for Emerging Anglophone Writers will be handed to another Cameroon writer who has made strides in the sector, Tah Protus. His prose fiction titled “The Immortal Seed” won him the prize while a collection of poems, the “Primitive Prayer” by Dona Forbin won him the poetry category. The drama category will be received by Mathew Takwi for his work “Gaining the Game.”

The Eko prize is a collaborative agreement between the Eko Foundation for the furtherance of Literature, an educational foundation incorporated in the States of Iowa in the United States of America and the Anglophone Cameroon Writers’ Association (ACWA), for purposes of promoting Anglophone Cameroon literature.
