While marching in the streets of Yaounde from the Ministry of External Relations through the Warda Junction to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication and going down to the Ministry of Higher Education to the 20th May Boulevard, the youths, particularly students from the Madagascar Multi-Functional Centre for Youth Promotion in Yaounde, carried meaningful messages of peace. This was indicative of the fact that they are not only conscious of the importance of peace but also their role in ensuring peace for any sustainable development in the country. On arrival at the 20th May Boulevard, the youths were welcomed by the Minister of Youth Affairs, Adoum Garoua, who highlighted the importance of the event which is not only to sensitise youths on the ideals of the African Union, but also to distribute gadgets and-shirts offered by the First Lady of Cameroon, Mrs Chantal Biya for the sensitisation of youths in the country. The t-shirts carried this message from UNESCO, “Education, Health, and Promotion: Youths First.”
In his message to youths in Africa, the President of African Union Commission, Jean Ping, reiterated the importance of empowering youths in Africa whose creativity and innovations are necessary for the development of the continent. Throwing light on the African Union July summit of Head of States in Equatorial Guinea, Malabo, which focused on accelerating youth empowerment in Africa, Jean Ping expressed conviction that the success of development in Africa cannot be accomplished without governments working with youths.
