Environment: Cameroonian Children In Indonesia, South Africa

They joined youths from other countries to make their voices heard on environmental issues.Some Cameroonian children and youth selected for outstanding initiatives and projects in the environment sector have participated in two important youth international conferences in Bandung in Indonesia and Durban in South Africa. 

This was disclosed by two press releases issued by the Minister of the Environment and Nature Protection, Hele Pierre, on Thursday 27 October. According to the first release, the Cameroonian children joined 1,400 children and youth from over 100 countries in the Indonesian city of Bandung for an international conference organised by the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, and the Government of Indonesia from 27 September to 1 October. The “Tunza Conference” held on the theme “Reshaping Our Future through a Green Economy and Sustainable Lifestyles.’

Minister Hele Pierre’s second press release also announces the participation of a number of Cameroonian children in the 2011 African Children’s Conference on the Environment that took place from 3 to 6 October on the theme “Energy, Waste, Forests, Biodiversity and their relation to Climate Change” in Durban, South Africa. The 120 participating children belonging to the Africa Children’s Environment Network, SPAR, discussed their input to the 17th Conference of Parties (Cop 17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change scheduled from 28 November to 09 December 2011 in South Africa. The children from Cameroon made a presentation on “Operation join children in keeping our beaches clean.”
