Akonolinga Celebrates Biya’s Anniversary in Fanfare

Commemorative activities were characterized by live musical concerts, speeches and merry making.

Activities to celebrate the 29th anniversary of Biya’s ascension to power, in Akonolinga on Sunday, took the airs of a popular feast. Banners and effigies of the president were displayed everywhere around the town and businesses around the ceremonial ground were closed to allow people attend the commemorative rally. The grand stand had also witnessed a face lift with palm fronds on the pillars of the edifice and flowers for decoration. The ceremony proper consisted of speeches, dancing and merry making as there was a live musical concert after the rally featuring top Cameroonian musicians like X-Maleya, Longue Longue, and a host of others.

Speaking during the occasion which was graced by playback musical performances and traditional dances, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, head of the CPDM delegation and member of the central committee, Robert Nkili, said the anniversary celebration is time to take stock of President Biya’s achievements which he classified into two categories, notably peace and development. He urged CPDM militants in the Nyong and Mfoumou Division to spear head development in the locality through the construction of houses, opening of farms or carrying out any other activity that is susceptible to generate income in their respective villages. He said the best way to support President Biya is through action quoting President Biya, who said this is time for action and not speeches. Other speeches came from the YCPDM, CPDM and WCPDM section presidents of Nyong and Mfoumou south as well as the mayor of Akonolinga, Ekodo Roger, the MP for the division, Akamba Assembe and the general manager of Socaepe, Jean Paul Bekolo Mbam. The various orators hammered on President Biya’s landslide victory in the October 9 poll, pointing out that Nyong and Mfoumou came second to the Dja and Lobo division in terms of the percentage of votes to the president. There was a live musical concert the night before and after the event.
