Thieves Burgle Microfinance

FCFA 14,780,000 is said to have disappeared from the safe after armed robbers broke into FI-PME in Bonanjo over the week-end.

Armed bandits in the night of last Friday breaking Saturday defiled an entrenched core of security detectives in the administrative quarters of Bonanjo in the economic capital and made away with several millions, reportedly FCFA 14,780,000. It is reported that, the bandits numbering about 15 came in two Toyota vehicles. The burglars stormed the FI-PME microfinance building from the roofs. Private security men who kept vigil to the building were held hostage and could not sound the alarm bell. In a few minutes, the offices of the financial institution had been ransacked. Keys to the safe are reported to have been picked up from one of the offices before making way into the storeroom where the safe was.

Later Saturday morning gendarme officers picked up two workers of the financial institution: the finance controller and cashier as well as two private security agents, who kept vigil that night. Senior cadres of the microfinance believe there was complicity that led to the bandits easily picking up the keys. But gendarmes are yet to confirm it as investigations are yet on course. It seems robbers have realised that the easiest place to rob and get away is the financial institutions and that is why such robbery occurs almost daily across the city. In a few months, hell broke loose in the economic capital when robbers robbed four financial institutions, including banks and microfinance institutions. Incessant armed robberies, day and night, have made sleeping with both eyes closed elusive to inhabitants of metropolitan Douala.
