Police Nab Drug Traffickers

The suspects are currently facing trial while others are in police custody in Bonaberi.

The hell that broke loose in metropolitan Douala of late when robbers broke into financial institutions appears to have their clue to the surge in drug trafficking and consumption, a police officer disclosed. The forces of law and order continue to fight tooth and nail; changing strategies at every encounter with traffickers, but the quest to break into the underworld mastermind is a steady course for revised strategy. Public collaboration has proved not only fruitful in the tracking down of some suspects but informative as a source for policy considerations.

Douala has paid the price for the ease of the traffic among consumers of Indian hemps, the most provocative being the entrenched hoodlums (addicts) in Makéa neighbourhood who recently stormed Bilongué wounding several people. The panic it caused somewhat invigorated the security corps to kind of close their noses and enter the toilet to fish out the nonsense, a Police Commissioner told Cameroon Tribune yesterday. Indeed, six hoodlums arrested between November 4 and 6 around Camp Bertaud and in Mabanda-Bonaberi retold the illicit circulation, and the news oiled many lips in the economic capital to recount the disaster they have brought upon the communities.

Mobile Intervention Police picked up Ngnintedem Ngoutsop, Nguefack Elvis, Ndifornguh Godfred Njemke and Nguene Zebaze Cédric in Mabanda-Bonaberi and placed them under the custody of Fifth Police District. Two others who fell in the dragnet of police of the Third District are currently facing trial at the Bonanjo Court of First Instance. In both cases the suspects are charged with keeping, consuming and selling illicit drugs, called Indian hemps. Police officers said they now have a clue as to the source of the drugs, but thinks that further investigations may prove details.
