Dave Nyake Passes On

The CRTV journalist funly called Dr. Nyaks died in the night of Wednesday, November 10, at the General Hospital in Douala.

The dead which struck the media landscape in Douala, kept most of CRTV Douala regretting that lost of such a repository. Family sources said David Nyake, popularly known as Dave Nyake, suffered from hypertension for a number of years until last Wednesday, November 10, when fate called him to his holiness. He died at about 11 p.m. at the Douala General Hospital where he was rushed to a few hours ago.

Nyake was lastly heard on radio throughout October when he presented “Sunrise News “at 9 a.m. Colleagues saw him lastly on October 30, when he turned at the CRTV Regional Station in Bonanjo. He looked and his robust attitude was never there but not like somebody who was going to die. His gait was no longer energetic. But then that flare for professionalism was still alive in him and he put it to work. Born in 1957 at his native Nguti village, Kupe Muanenguba Division, SW, Nyake sustained 30 years of continuous, uninterrupted journalism, having worked almost entirely in CRTV Douala. Colleague said he was to go on retirement next year.

One of his close colleagues, Ngoningeh Swaibou Shareh remembers Nyake as a wonderful senior colleague, never complaining and could do many assignments at a time. “He was admirable, very humble, simple and modest and hated lazy attitudes in young colleagues – they always wanted to be chosen which is what was never in the attitude of Nyake,” he lamented. He preferred using his quiet hours to relax behind a bottle of beer, and the house understood him for that and so never assigned him for nightly duties, probably because his performance may not be at its best. Besides his being funly called Dr. Nyaks at CTRV, close friends also referred to him as “No wine no news”, a phrase he himself regularly uttered. 54-year Dave Nyake leaves behind a widow and two female children each of 28 and 24 years old. He received a Silver and Copper medal for his duties at the CRTV last July. His widow, Poline Nyake, said; “Before he died he had become a full Christian with a changed life.”
