High Technology Capacity Building Rounds Off

The training among engineering students and the public geared towards stimulating self-employment and entrepreneurship initiatives.

The academic association of engineering students from the Industrial Engineering Faculty, IEF, of the University of Douala, Infinity Space, brought students and the public together to discover new technologies. With the strong support of the Faculty’s staff and Dean, the two-day promotional conference and training organized on the campus of the Faculty from November 4-5 was baptized Infinity Hi-Tech Days.

The objective of the conference and seminar was primarily to boost student (IEF engineering students) and public access to more sophisticated and up to date technology, in order to increase their creativity, productivity and dynamism to promote self-employment and entrepreneurship. The event also attended by the academia in the economic capital empowered scientists and engineers to achieve economic prosperity through access to high technology tools. The first day, called “Labview Day”, focused on Mobile Web, Robotics, Automation, mechanical engineering, quality control, electronics, Computer Science etc., that permit to carry High Technologies projects in all fields of science, from conception to consumption (From brain to using). The second day, the “Google Android Day”, centred on discovering the potential of new generation of Web technologies and mobile phones using the Android platform of Google to serve the Industrial Engineer and the general public of Cameroon.

The location of the IEF in Douala is shows the strategic role that the institution will play in support of national growth, says Pr. Robert Nzengwa, Dean of the Faculty. Such a growth requires a new class of human resources, able to maintain the systems and industrial machines whose technology is increasingly sophisticated. Training must provide the technical management skills. To meet the supply of these new profiles, the Industrial Engineering Faculty organized the training for students undertaking telecommunications and information technologies; industrial construction technologies; automotive technology; industrial fishing; industrial hygiene safety and security; as well as civil engineering. The Faculty is tasked with promoting research in these areas. Infinity Space is non-profit, composed of student engineers, and aims to identify concrete problems of society and to solve them with the use of high technology tools.
