Japan Concerned About Basic Education

The new Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, Tsutomu Arai, has promised to strengthen relations between Cameroon and Japan.

The Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim, last Thursday November 17 received the new Japanese Ambassador to Cameroon, Tsutomu Arai. The courtesy visit was within the framework of fruitful relations between Cameroon and Japan.

Speaking at the occasion, the diplomat said Japan attaches a lot of importance to cooperation between the two countries especially in the domain of education. He promised that during his tenure, he will reinforce relations between Cameroon and Japan not only in the domain of education, but in other domains notably health, economy, etc. On her part, Youssouf Hadidja Alim hailed the government of Japan for her support to the people of Cameroon and the education community in general. Adding that this was as a result of fruitful cooperation between Cameroon and Japan. She said for Cameroon, Japan is no longer a financial and technical partner, but also a friendly and brotherly country.

In the last ten years, Japan has constructed 104 primary schools in the country with over 1,300 classrooms. This week, Tsutomu Arai will be visiting some Japanese projects in the Far North Region.
