The high mark of the matriculation ceremony was an ecumenical service led by four chaplains.
Newly admitted students of the University of Buea (UB), the 19th batch, were commissioned during their matriculation ceremony last Friday November 18. Addressing the freshmen in the university campus, Prof. Vincent P.K. Titanji, the Vice Chancellor, recommended three steps for success.
The first is knowledge acquisition, which should be paramount among their objectives. “Make it a point to come to class on time, listening and taking notes, and above all, finding out things for yourself,” he stressed. He equally urged the students to maximize their use of Information and Communication Technology facilities, while proceeding with caution.
The second keyword is practice, which goes in line with professionalization. He explained that UB has designed and is offering professional degrees both in the faculties and professional schools.
The ceremony began with a procession of the academic and administrative officials of the university. Shortly after, an ecumenical service ensued. The gathering was graced by a discourse from Stephen Asek, an alumnus of UB and a Country Representative of International Government Institute. Bringing together administrative, municipal, traditional and religious authorities, diplomats and well wishers, the UB choir spiced the day with musical animation, while the students pledged their commitment to the university by taking the matriculation oath.
