“The Guardian Post” Inaugurates New Office

The brief but colourful ceremony in Yaounde brought together media practitioners and above all representatives of the Ministers of Communications and Culture.

“Most newspapers in Cameroon started as suit case papers and I no longer want to be counted among such publications,” said, Christian Nga, Publisher of the Guardian Newspaper. “We have been operating in a place not worth the sword and it was high time we changed our status,” he added. He made the remark on December 7 in Yaounde as the new head office of the Guardian Newspaper was inaugurated. Located at the Chapelle Obili neighbourhood the new office is furnished with all it takes to make a modern and comfortable working environment.

Guests at the event like the Board Chair of Elections Cameroon, Dr Samuel Fonkam Azu’u, and representatives of the Ministers of Communication and Culture joined media practitioners who turned up massively for the event in hailing the publisher of the Guardian Post for his bravery. Christian Nga announced the imminent launch of the Guardian radio and television. This, he said, will come to add to the Guardian Post Magazine, a quarterly publication.

Born some ten years ago, the Guardian Post newspaper like any other English language newspaper has gone through thick and thin. “We decided to launch a quarterly magazine as a high point of events to mark the 10th anniversary of the Guardian Post Newspaper Media Group,” Christian Nga hinted. Financial difficulties with the inability to have sustainable advertisements remain its stumbling blocks. In spite of all the challenges, Christian Nga sounded upbeat, saying that the achievements of the newspaper outweigh darker days.
