20days after the 18th extra-ordinary board meeting of the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation, SOPECAM on November 25th, board members of the company yesterday December 15 again converged in Yaounde for the 19th and 46th extra-ordinary and ordinary board meetings respectively.

The two board meetings were chaired by the President of the Board of Directors, Joseph LE with the Director General of SOPECAM, Marie-Claire Nnana as rapporteur.

The first session adopted the 2012 budget while the second session dwelled on the development plan of the company for the period 2012 to 2014. It emerged from the meeting that SOPECAM will in 2012 manage FCFA 13.8 billion for expenditure and investment, a drop from FCFA 19 billion in the year ending. Over FCFA 11.11 billion has been set aside for running budget while FCFA 2.7 billion has been earmarked for investment.

Holding at a time when the Head of State, Paul Biya is determined to transform Cameroon into a vast construction site through his “major accomplishment” programme from 2012, the President of the Board of Governors, Joseph LE, reiterated the need for the company staff to be meticulous, diligent and, above all, remain determined. “The State has put a lot of means to modernize our enterprise so we need to work to satisfy the public and the State,” Joseph LE stressed. “2012 is an electoral year and SOPECAM should be able to do its job as leader so as to continue to be appreciated by hierarchy,” he hinted.

The need for the company to remain a leader in the country’s media landscape and the sub-region, Joseph LE explained, was primordial. Coming at a time when construction work is ongoing to install a state-of-the-art printing machine, eased by the Head of State, Paul Biya, Joseph LE said emphasis will be on the installation of the equipment.

He urged members of the board to ameliorate the services of the company by developing human resources so as to put into maximum use resources and equipment bestowed on the enterprise. In 2008, the company adopted a four-year roadmap with specific objectives and assigned rules which according to the President of the Board of Governors, yielded desired fruits through more challenges lie ahead.
