Christmas Fiesta Snatches State House School

The effervescence and anxiety that herald Christmas and New Year festivities was manifested at the premises of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon last Friday, December 16 as pupils of Les Coccinelles Primary School Complex at the Unity Palace expressed their happiness at the approach of another Christmas season full of gifts and lots of pleasant surprises. Christmas carols, dance, distribution of gifts, souvenir pictures and Christmas goodies alongside special demonstrations punctuated the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the School Complex at the Unity Palace which was presided at by the Matron of the school, First Lady of Cameroon, Mrs Chantal Biya.

Like little angels, singing by the “Manger” of Jesus Christ, pupils at Les Coccinelles Primary School thrilled their Matron alongside their parents and special guests to some angelic and exhilarating Christmas songs and sketches which did not only draw thunderous applauds from the audience, but saw everybody either nodding his/her head in approval, swaying the body to the rhythm of celebration or standing up to dance. The colourful and special decor at the premises of the school complex, with beautiful flowers, balloons and dolls; coupled with the arrival of the First Lady at the ceremonial ground signalled a great Christmas party for the kids of the school who welcomed their Matron with a song titled “It will soon be Christmas”. In succinct displays, the kids, in the official languages, French and English, revealed to their audiences that they master the social and biblical meanings of Christmas. The pupils treated their audience to songs such as “It is Christmas”, “Father Christmas”, “Christmas charms”, “Je serai Père Noel”, etc. In a special song “Cameroon, Cameroon”, Les Coccinelles pupils prayed for their nation and native land of peace and plenty.

Local artists such as Ob Jazz joined the kids in a live presentation to express gratitude to Mrs Biya who the kids fondly call “Mama Chantal”, for the great Christmas feast and daily care. When the group Le 2 kitu mounted the podium with their popular hit “mathématik”, their appearance increased the tempo of the party. As the kids and audience happily danced to “mathematik”, “Father Christmas” made his surprise entry to the event. The ambiance did not leave “Father Christmas” indifferent as he joined the crowd in an extraordinary dancing style that kept everybody spellbound. This ushered the distribution of Christmas gifts. Mrs Chantal Biya set the ball rolling with gifts in which all children at the party went home with a huge Christmas gift from the First Lady. The sizes of some gifts were bigger than the children. Dignitaries present at the ceremony such as the Ministers of Basic Education, Youths and Civic Education other personalities joined the First Lady in gifts distribution.

As if to add final icing to the cake, the young artist, Indira, in a song from her latest album “Score de honte” graced the event in what many said “it is excellent”! Little Indira, dressed in white alongside the kids gave the audience a special display in her title “the plan of redemption”. As if angles had just descended from Heaven, Indira, according to many people present at the event added the necessary stitches needed to complete the event breathtaking.

The traditional group pictures between the matron and kids of the school took a different twist this year. Besides the group picture, the kids’ individually asked for a souvenir picture with their matron. The ever-smiling matron took turns to snap shots with each kid before receiving a crowd bath by the kids around a Christmas tree which had lots of goodies.
