A notorious group of bandits which caused panic among people in Nsimeyong neighbourhood was caught last Thursday December 23.

It was a rather horrific morning at Nsimeyong a Yaounde neighbourhood last Thursday December 22. Traffic was almost grounded to a halt as three suspected bandits were almost lynched by an angry crowd. Reports say a young lady whose names were got as Carol Kengne boarded a taxi at the Tam Tam weekend Biyem_Assi neighbourhood at about 7:30 a.m. Complex Olympic in the Nsimeyong neighbourhood. Unfortunately for her the taxi was occupied by bandits. According to reports, there were five people onboard (two women and three men). Carol, the sixth passenger, had to sit in the front seat with one of the men. Immediately after take off, the bandits seized Carol’s bag and took the sum of FCFA 5,000. As if that was not enough, the bandits attempted to throw her out of the taxi. Carol then held fast to the seat and started screaming. Fortunately for Carol, one taxi cab driver noticed that she was in trouble and decided to chase the bandits.

On arriving Nsimeyong junction the bandits attempted to go towards the Damas neighbourhood instead of the real destination. But the taxi was immediately surrounded by motorbike riders who were alerted following screams from Carol. On stopping the vehicle, the inhabitants of the area identified the group as that had been caught and severely punished on the same spot six months ago. The bandits were severely beaten up by the crow and almost lynched but for the timely intervention of the police. “That taxi driver is a notorious thief. We don’t know where he lives but he is fund of assaulting people with his group. Today he has been caught,” said one angry neighbour. “They have stolen huge amount of money from people but today they are going to die because of FCFA 5,000,” said another neighbour. Meanwhile, the two ladies on board had vanished into thin air as the public thought they were passengers. Investigations continue.
