School campuses throughout the national territory will once more spring to life today for the second and longest term of the academic year 2011-2012 after two weeks of hectic activities to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. After two weeks of break pupils and students will today follow the path leading to their various classrooms for the second term. Throughout the national territory, school premises will witness hustling and bustling while traffic in towns is likely going to intensify as people are seen rushing to school. Yesterday, there was heavy traffic in motor parks, particularly that at the Mvan neighbourhood in Yaounde as students, who were on holidays, struggled to get a bus to join their areas of studies.
This academic term remains the most decisive in the academic year as it will take good judgment for a student to sail through safely. The term will be spiced with a lot of extra-curricular activities geared towards Youth Day. The Youth Day will witness sporting, cultural, marching rehearsals activities etc. Hence, with this busy look of the second term, students are urged to take their studies seriously so as to perfectly blend the Youth Day and book work.
Many students and pupils who did not perform well last term are already bent on starting the term without relaxation, thus the reason why roads in the nation’s capital are expected to be jammed with school children this morning. The term that comes at the New Year is often characterised by New Year resolutions taken by students and teachers alike. Popular New Year resolutions centre on being more assiduous at work, less quarrelsome in school, attentive in class, avoiding gossiping, attending every lesson, quitting smoking, shunning alcohol or achieving something concrete, like passing the examination.
For University students, the term is important as they will write their first semester examination. Many University students and those in professional schools spend the festive period preparing for the first semester examination. This will be a baptism of fire for first year students as it will be their first examination in the University. Mixed feelings characterise kids in nursery school as they begin another school term. Some of them dread such moments. While others will pretend to be sick on this first day in school and yet some will be anxious to put on their school uniform again.
