Effective Classes Begin

Majority of pupils and students yesterday began studies for the second academic term.

As early as 6:30 a.m. yesterday January 3, pupils and students followed the different roads of the capital city to regain their classrooms for the start of the second term of the 2011/2012 academic year. By 7:30 a.m. the usual general assembly had taken place in some schools in the nation’s capital with teachers and students in massive attendance. This was followed by effective lessons with pupils and students in absolute attentiveness.

Cameroon Tribune (CT) made a tour to some school premises in Yaounde during which it was noted that more than 75 per cent of pupils and students marked present on the first day of classes after two weeks of hectic activities to celebrate Christmas and New Year. At the Central Government English Primary School in Yaounde, pupils were seen at the school campus at about 6:45 a.m. in a happy scenario as they met their friends and classmates for the first time this year. The Headmistress of Group One of the School, Florence Asong Mpane said very few pupils are yet to begin classes this year particularly those who spent their holidays out of Yaounde.

Considering that the school term is a busy one, Florence Asong, during general assembly with pupils, urged them to abandon playing and effectively use the little time they have to study. While awaiting the launch of Youth Day activities, the Headmistress of Group One, Central Government English Primary School said teachers have already prepared their lessons which they are currently using in helping pupils prepare for the third sequence examination which will come up in three weeks. At the Complexe Scolaire Public in the Olezoa neighbourhood of Yaounde, there was also massive turn-out of pupils on the first day in school. The Headmistress of Group Two of the school, Jacqueline Amongou-Nguenda said didactic materials have already been distributed to teachers and pupils in a bid to make sure that there is no delay in an effective start of the second term. Presently at the institution, teachers and pupils are working on academic assignments which were given to them as they went for the first term holidays, she added.
