African Union Commission: Ethiopia Solicits Cameroon’s Support

 

The Ethiopian Special envoy, Ambassador Grum Abay handed a message to External Relations Minister, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo on January 21 to forward to President Paul Biya.

 

“Ethiopia has presented a request for a post in one of the eight Commissions within the African Union. My Prime Minister wants to request the support of the Cameroonian government, especially that of President Paul Biya,” the special envoy of Ethiopia, Ambassador Grum Abay,  who is also the Director General for European Affairs at the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  said in Yaounde on Saturday, January 21, 2012.

Ambassador Grum Abay was the bearer of a message from the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Meles Zenawi to Cameroon’s Head of State, President Paul Biya. He handed the message to the External Relations Minister, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo during an audience to forward to President Paul Biya.

Speaking to the press after the discussions with Minister Moukoko Mbonjo, the Ethiopian envoy said, the 18th session of the African Union Summit will take place at their capital, Addis Ababa  from this Monday, January 23 to 30  2012, starting with the ministerial meeting ahead of the hallmark which will be the summit of Heads of State and Governments. He revealed that many African countries are vying for positions in the eight Commissions within the African Union and elections into the various positions will hold during the summit. Ambassador Grum Abay declined naming the Commission, his country was gunning for, stating that it will be known during the summit.

On Cameroon-Ethiopia bilateral relations, the special envoy disclosed that both countries have been discussing establishing relations in some areas, stating that a couple of agreements will likely be signed during the upcoming African Union Summit. He said African countries have lots of opportunities to strengthen relations in many areas, citing infrastructure, energy and transport. He stressed the need for stronger relations in peace and security within the African content itself.
