More Water, Electricity For Cameroonians in 2012

This is one of the objectives of the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy this year.

The Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Basile Atangana Kouna last Monday January 23 acknowledged the fact that Cameroon’s energy and water supply are not sufficient and it is his ministry’s duty to bridge the shortfall. He was speaking during the traditional presentation of New Year wishes to him by his collaborators and partners involved in the water and energy sector. Basile Atangana Kouna said this year; his ministry will focus on providing additional water and energy supply to urban and rural areas through the effective execution of long awaited major projects such as the Lom Pangar, Memveele and Mekin Hydropower dams, the Kribi Gas Fired Electricity Plant, the Yaounde and Douala Water Schemes amongst others.

Earlier during the ceremony the Secretary General of the ministry, Fritz Gerald Nasako, presented a retrospective review and highlight of some elements of achievement made in some of their major sector in 2011. However, Fritz Gerald Nasako said there is need to improve the working conditions within the sector notably through the setting up of befitting edifices for the central and field services of our Ministry, putting into place of an organizational chart to be able to address new impending challenges, overseeing the transition from the price-cap to the revenue cap tariff system for electricity. The Secretary General also reiterated the need for the extension of bulk storage capacity for petroleum and gas products, standardization and control of electrical installations and equipment as well as the establishment of an Urban Water Sector Regulatory Body and the revival of the National Water Council.
