Yaounde International Handicraft Show: Adamawa Seeks Better Visibility

The region’s 30 exhibitors at SIARC are creating business contacts to widen their clientele.

As the on going third edition of Cameroon’s International Handicrafts Exhibition (SIARC) enters Day Three this Thursday, some 30 craftsmen and women from the Adamawa Region, like the rest of the exhibitors, are dreaming big. They hope by the time the show ends on February 3, they would have increased sales and clinched business contacts that would better their businesses in the short and long terms.

Their dreams are bolstered by the rich and diverse craft works they have on display. Bracelets made of volcanic stones, jewelleries from car bones, paintings, sculptures and agro-food products, among others. According to Abdoulaye Aziz, Chief of Service for Crafts Work at the Regional Delegation of Minpmessa in Adamawa, the 30 craftsmen and women have been meticulously selected from the thousands the regions boasts of and are therefore showcasing the best of their know-how.    Like Boubakary Adamu, exhibitor of jewelleries, Adjia née Halimatu in agro-food products, Mbomblang Gouroudja in painting and design and Mohamadou Moutarou in processed honey and by-products as well as Mamoudou Serno into processing natural cow milk, SIARC is a golden opportunity to make themselves better known. They however believe that with government support, through financial subvention, they could easily emerge and live from their handwork.
