FCFA 2.9 Billion To Boost Agricultural Research

MINRESI boss outlined the ministry’s roadmap Friday in a New Year Wishes ceremony.

The Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI) is disbursing FCFA 2.9 billion this year to finance 10 agronomic research projects piloted by the Institute for Agronomic Research and Development (IRAD). The projects are in the sectors like plantain, cassava, Irish potato, sorghum, rice, agro-forestry, vegetable, horticulture, among others. Each of the projects is to gulp between FCFA 275 to 300 million. This is one of the priority areas of the ministry in the ongoing fiscal year as outlined by the Minister, Dr Madeleine Tchuinte, last Friday January 27 while receiving best wishes from the staff of her ministry and associated institutions at the Yaounde Conference Centre.

Another innovation to boost agronomic research is the putting in place of FCFA 1.12 billion for competition by promoters of small and medium-size enterprises and industries engaged in the agricultural and agro-medicinal sectors. Each winner, she announced, will back home between FCFA 50 to 70 million. These and other activities, the minister announced, are to contribute in boosting agriculture in line with the Head of State’s prescriptions to invest in the production and infrastructure sectors. Other areas of scientific research and innovation like the local materials, medicinal research, geological institute, radiological protection and technological development, she said, will also be given particular attention.
