Transport Infrastructure: Nsimalen Airport Upgrades Equipment

The Minister of Transport paid a five-hour visit to the airport on Friday February 3.

Renovation work undertaken at the Yaounde Nsimalen Airport by the Cameroon Airport Management Authority, ADC, is progressing. New traction equipment has been acquired, ordinary and first class waiting rooms upgraded, a staircase acquired, toilets entirely rehabilitated while electric escalators and luggage conveyors have also been renovated.

Assessing the major accomplishments during a courtesy visit on Friday February 3, the Minister of Transport, Professor Robert Nkili expressed satisfaction at the pace of modernisation going on at the airport. He visited the renovated check-in facilities, departure lounges, passport control unit, duty-free shops, toilets, check-in counters, health check boxes, VIP Lounge, high security scanners, arrival halls, freight services, air control towers and the runway. “The Yaounde Nsimalen Airport has the necessary equipment to receive all kinds of aircraft,” he concluded.

After listening to a briefing on renovation work going on in other airports in the country, Professor Nkili instructed ADC’s General Manager, Thomas Owona Assoumou, to pursue the modernisation of the Douala International airport without delay, complete the re-roofing of the Garoua International Airport and renovation work at the Maroua Salak Airport. While noting that the Bamenda Airport was refurbished during the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Armed Forces, he instructed that secondary airports such as Bafoussam and Bertoua be given attention so as to give greater visibility to the country’s aeronautic coverage.

Prof. Robert Nkili was on his maiden visit to institutions under his ministry since taking office after the December 9, 2011 cabinet reshuffle. He announced his upcoming visits to the Douala International Airport, the Douala Seaport and National Shipyard Project, the Limbe Petroleum Yard and deep seaport projects, as well as other major infrastructure projects included in the Head of State, President Paul Biya’s Major Accomplishment policy.
