National Youth Forum Begins Today

Some 1,500 youths will brainstorm on their socio-economic and professional integration.


 

The first edition of the National Youth Forum begins today Tuesday February 7 at the Yaounde Conference Centre. Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education within the framework of innovative activities to mark the 46th National Youth Day, the two-day forum brings together over 1,500 youths who will be lectured by resources persons from several ministries on issues related to the forum’s theme: “The socio-economic and professional integration of the youths: Challenges and prospects.”

Some of the lectures, to be delivered today, will dwell on the place of youths in Cameroon’s development strategy, the challenge of youth preparedness for employment, the promotion of entrepreneurship for the socio-economic integration of youths in urban and suburban areas and the place of youths in the new agricultural policy, amongst others. Tomorrow, Wednesday February 8, will be marked by workshops, an exhibition by youths, a visit to the Entreprise Creation Formalities Centre and a high-profile closing ceremony.

Speaking recently at a press briefing in Yaounde, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Dr Bidoung Mkpatt said the forum aims at encouraging youths to take job opportunities particularly in agriculture. He also urged them to be proactive, creative and present in profitable sectors of the national economy.
