Youths Face-to-Face With Employment Challenges

The Youth Employment Week began yesterday with open door day activities in Yaounde.

The Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Zacharie Perevet, yesterday February 7 at the premises of the Yaounde City Council encouraged youths to use the opportunities offered by the National Employment Fund (FNE) to know what the job market offers and how they can get acquainted with the various job opportunities. Zacharie Perevet was speaking during an event to launch the traditional Youth Employment Week organised by the National Employment Fund.

In the presence of some 200 students from Collége Jean Tabi, CETIC Charles Atangana, Lycée Général Leclerc and other professional institutions in Yaounde, Zacharie Perevet said the government is taking numerous measures to create employment for Cameroonian youths. According to the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, this can be seen through the creation of youth’s professional training centres in some regional headquarters in the country. He said with the effective implementation of long-awaited major infrastructure projects such as the Lom Pangar, Memve’ele and Mekin hydropower dams, the Kribi Gas-fired electricity plant; job opportunities especially for Cameroonian youths will be created.

The 14th edition of the Youth Employment Week is part of activities to mark the 46th Youth Day, to be celebrated on February 11. The event is taking place in all the regional agencies of the National Employment Fund. For four days, youths nationwide will be informed on existing programmes and measures taken by the National Employment Fund to facilitate their integration into professional life. It is also an opportunity for youths to come face to face with the stakes and challenges of their professional life. This will be done through several activities such as the open-door-days, employment fairs, visits to enterprises, practical training workshops and practical exercises on project design. Yesterday in Yaounde, youths at the City Council Hall participated in three training workshops on the production of films, employment opportunities in the tourism and hotel management sectors.
