Mincommerce boss began meeting with business people on tuesrday in Yaounde.

Dealers in sugar in the country have promised government that they have a considerable stock in their warehouses that can feed the public for some months. They made the disclosure yesterday February 7 during a meeting with the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana. According to officials of the country’s sugar producing company, SOSUCAM, the stock they have can allow them to supply the market with at least 10,000 tonnes every month. Corroborating SOSUCAM, other distributors assured government that there is no reason to panic, “for there will be enough in the market at homologated prices which range between FCFA 650 and FCFA 700.”

Addressing the business people, the Minister said assuring that people have enough supply of basic commodities at affordable prices was government’s priority. He added that far from being a routine activity of the Ministry of Trade, 2012 has its peculiarities and it would be normal for synergy between government and business people to feed all the citizens. Mr Mbarga Atangana cited, among others, the recent closure of the borders between Cameroon and Nigeria in the Northern Regions, as one of the reasons for concerted efforts to cushion the effects and ensure that all citizens irrespective of where they are in the country have sufficient supply of basic commodities at convenient prices.

The Minister also met with dealers in the rice, flour, salt, cooking oil, milk, roofing iron sheets and iron rots. At press time, nothing had filtered from the behind close-door concertation. According to the programme served Cameroon Tribune, the concertation continues this Wednesday with all importers of sardines and dealers in cement as well as suppliers and DOUAl’AIR Company.
