Cost of Living: Gov’t Assured of Market Stability

Dealers in basic commodities in the country have assured government that there will be no scarcity in the market in 2012. Almost all of them hold that they have sufficient stock that can supply the national market at reasonable prices. This is in line with government’s efforts to fight against price hikes that usually step up the cost of living. Like the dealers in rice, flour, salt, cooking oil, milk, roofing iron sheets and iron rots that met with the Minister of Trade on Tuesday, those in sardines and dealers in cement as well as suppliers and DOUAl’AIR Company that rounded off the two-day concertation yesterday February 8 did not say the contrary. Dealers in sardine however blamed the increasing sales price of the product (FCFA 500 per cube of sardine) on high customs duties. Cameroon Tribune caught up with the Minister to appraise the conclusion of the discussions and what will be done to ensure that the conclusions arrived at are respected to letter. Read on…
