Malaria is a public health problem in the African continent and particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. It is the major cause of death in most communities in sub-Saharan Africa. In this light, a two-day a final review and evaluation meeting of vector biology and control project opened in Yaounde on February 13. The theme of the workshop is “Malaria Vector Control: Filling the gap between product development and effective delivery.”
Speaking during the opening, the Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda, called on participants to examine the results with attention and determination in order to come out with satisfactory results for the common good of all member countries. Organised by the Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, the meeting brings together participants from eleven countries in Africa, Europe and America. The objective of the meeting is to review activities and assess the level of implementation of the project. Cameroon has received funding worth FCFA 14,512,000 under the “Filling the Gaps” project that is financed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through the World Health Organisation. The major challenge today is to ensure at least 80 percent coverage of the long Lasting Mosquito bed nets across the country.
