Cameroonians interested in Chinese dishes have been invited to attend the Chinese Gastronomy Week that started on Tuesday February 14 and ends tomorrow Friday February 17 at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde.
Opening the event, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cameroon, Xue Jinwei, said the week was an opportunity to portray Chinese culinary know-how and a variety of dishes to the Cameroonian public that is showing increasing interest in Chinese food offered by several Chinese restaurants in the country.
Several cabinet ministers and representatives of some diplomatic missions as well as high-profile Chinese nationals resident in Cameroon were in attendance. Among them were Ministers Amadou Ali, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, André Mama Fouda, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, Adoum Garoua, Gregoire Owona and Alamine Ousman Mey.
Partaking in the buffet, the guests enjoyed, amongst others, meals like Xianggu Chao Qingcai or Chinese vegetables and flavoured mushrooms as well as Haixianjiroudoufujuan or Tofu pasta stuffed with sea-food and chicken.
Deep fried shrimps, pork cutlets and Cantonese rice were some other dishes on the menu. After savouring the food with visible satisfaction, the guests were invited to a taste of Chinese traditional tea. The evening also saw a martial arts demonstration and Chinese music offered by students and teachers of the Confucius Institute in Yaounde.
According to Wang Yin of the Chinese Embassy, members of the public could visit the Yaounde Hilton Hotel to enjoy Chinese meals every evening as from 7 pm at FCFA 15,000 per person. The cuisine week ends tomorrow.
