Yaounde: Gifts to Improve Mother/ Child Health

WHO and ADB have donated medical equipment to the Ministry of Public Health.

Henceforth, the Ministry of Public Health will better manage the outbreak of epidemics, ameliorate the healthcare given to women and children, intensify the fight and control of cholera as well as the river blindness disease through recent medical donations from its partners. On Friday February 17, the Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda presided at a joint ceremony to receive medical equipment from the World Health Organisation (WHO), worth FCFA 89 million and seven medical ambulances from the African Development Bank (ADB), worth FCFA 240 million. The Regional Representatives of WHO in Cameroon, Charlotte Faty Ndiaye and that of ADB, Racine Kane, said the material gifts will reinforce their cooperation links in the fight against illnesses in Cameroon.

The keys of the seven medical ambulances, brand new Toyota Land Cruiser, handed to the Minister of Public Health were immediately distributed to seven health districts in the country according to a decision signed by Minister André Mama Fouda the same day. According to the decision, the ambulances went to the health districts of Nanga Eboko, Akonolinga, Lolodorf, Sa’a, Zoetele, Ebolowa and the Chantal Biya Foundation in Meyomessala. The health boss underlined that the vehicles belong to the State and must be used for the service of the public. André Mama Fouda told beneficiaries to ensure the security and maintenance of the vehicles. The vehicles will be used to offer better healthcare to Cameroonians, particularly women and children.

The medical kits from WHO will be used to control the spread of epidemics such as cholera throughout the national territory. WHO representative said the over 28 motorbikes will facilitate the movement of health personnel during period of epidemic while the special mobile phones, with special Zero FCFA tariff, will help the population to call the attention of health workers on time during an epidemic outbreak.
