MTN Elite One: Coton Sport Poised to Widen Leadership Gap

This will be during day six matches to take place this weekend.

Coton Sport will be seeking to extend her leadership margin and consolidate her lead on the championship when they play host to Aigle of Menoua at the Roumdé Adja stadium in Garoua. Coton Sport took over the lead on the fifth day of play following the defeat of Unisport and Union, thanks to 2-0 victory recorded over their fellow brothers from the North Region, Scorpion of Bé. After a timid start of the season, Coton Sport gathers steam as the championship progresses and today occupies the top position with 11 points.

Union and Unisport seem to have a common fate this year in the championship as they are abreast with each other on ten points. Union was humbled 0-2 by Sable while newcomer, New Stars, stunned Unisport 3-1.Though they recorded defeats, Unisport and Union still occupy the second position with ten points. However, Panthere with one match pending against Astres, is turning the heat on the first three teams as they occupy the 4th position with eight points. It will therefore be fireworks when Union and Unisport play host to Yong Sports and Sable respectively next Sunday as they will be fighting to wipe away the sad memories of their defeats.

Also on the look-out will be the encounter between Renaissance and Scorpion. The stakes will be to find out whether the club from Ngoumou will score their first goal since the beginning of the championship this year. Equally under observation will be the performance of Canon Yaounde against Njalla Quan Academy as the club from Nkoldongo recorded their first victory in the championship after changing the technical staff of the club. Canon therefore will be out to win in order to restore peace in the Kpa-kum house and boost the confidence of the players. Meanwhile the Astres-Panthere encounter deferred because of the involvement of the ‘Brazilians of Bepanda-Douala’, in the African champions League, has been scheduled for February 29.
