Philemon Yang chaired the 12th session of the National Road Board at the Star Building in Yaounde, dedicated to evaluate the implementation of the road sector programme for 2011 and validate the programme for 2012.

Talking to the press after the over three hours meeting held behind closed doors, the Permanent Secretary of the National Road Board, Moumbain Matapit Issofa said the Prime Minister instructed vote holders to ensure that the 2012 programme be effectively implemented. The Prime Minister, he said, stated that the programme be transformed from major accomplishments to major successes. Mr Yang, the Permanent Secretary of the Board added, called on the Ministry of Public Works, General Delegation for National Security and National Gendarmerie to effectively train their staff in charge of ensuring road safety, while enjoining Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) to join government efforts in implementing road safety measures.

The Minister of Public Works, Patrice Amba Salla on his part, told the press after the meeting that contractors were fully mobilised on the field to carry out the emergency measures government recently took disbursing, FCFA 100 billion for work on some major roads in the country. He said without waiting for the contracts to be signed, the enterprises to carry out the work are already evaluating the state of the roads for serious work to start soon. Concerning the computerisation of the management of tollgates, the Public Works Minister revealed that it will go operational soon. He substantiated by stating that staff to do the work are being trained and equipment also being acquired.

The 11th session of the National Road Board held towards the end of 2011 rose with the resolutions to finalise feasibility studies on the computerisation of the management of tollgates, make the country’s industrial zones more accessible, identify and maintain bad spots on the Yaounde-Bafoussam road that caused a series of accidents, among others.
