Yaounde: Foetus Found in a Gutter

The corpse of the baby was washed by rain water in a filthy gutter.

On Friday March 16, 2012, passers-by around the Madagascar market in Yaounde were taken-aback as they discovered a foetus of about six months amidst rubbish in the water-way that passes behind the market down to the Mokolo market and other neighbourhoods in the area.

It was about 5:00 p.m. when individuals started gathering around the gutter behind the Madagascar market along the road leading to the Cite-Verte neighbourhood in Yaounde. On every face was an expression of consternation and shock. Those who managed to say something lamented with such expressions: “Look at what some couples are looking for! “Some women are terrible! How can a woman carry a foetus for this long and decide to terminate the pregnancy in garbage! “This is wickedness”!

Given the depth of the gutter, people could not go closer to the remains of the foetus. But some eye witnesses who opted for anonymity said the foetus is more than five months old. One could clearly see that all the body parts of the foetus had already developed with a fair body colour and long hands and legs. The fact that the remains of the foetus were yet to decompose, the population said this is an indication that the perpetrator committed the act not long before. Noting that the foetus is along a path of garbage being washed by rain water, it could be coming from an area far away from the Madagascar neighbourhood.
