Supreme State Audit: Russian Envoy, Civil Society Leaders Laud Efforts

Minister Henri Eyebe Ayissi held discussions with three separate delegations last Friday.

Cameroon’s Supreme State Audit Office has been lauded for its openness, efforts to ensure the proper management of public funds and improvement of the investment climate in the country.

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of the Supreme State Audit, Henri Eyebe Ayissi on Friday, March 16, 2012 held separate discussions with the Deputy Director of the African Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federation of Russia, Stanislas Akmedov, President of Transparency International-Cameroon, Charles Nguini and the leader of “Voies Nouvelles”, a civil society organisation in charge of fighting against corruption in the public investment sector, Befidi Jeanne.

The Russian official, Stanislas Akmedov, who is the country’s former Ambassador to Cameroon, came to the Supreme State Audit Office for a courtesy visit. He was in Cameroon from March 15 to 16, 2012 within the framework of the preparatory meeting for the ninth session of the Cameroon-Russia bilateral consultations. Stanislas Akmedov said that when he was ambassador in Cameroon, he worked well with Minister Eyebe Ayissi, then Minister of External Relations, to foster bilateral cooperation. He lauded the efforts of the Supreme State Audit Office to improve on the investment climate in Cameroon, stating that it was important for partnership. Russian investors, he said, plan to come to Cameroon.

The President of Transparency International-Cameroon, Charles Nguini told the press after discussing with Henri Eyebe Ayissi that his visit was a follow-up to the two-day National Forum on Non-judicial Protection of Public Funds, organised in Yaounde by the Supreme State Audit Office. He used the meeting to discuss the need and ways of collaboration between Transparency International and the Supreme State Audit Office. He further disclosed that they discussed good governance in the country.

Minister Eyebe Ayissi invited the delegation of the “Voies Nouvelles” led by Befidi Jeanne to discuss partnership between the institution and civil society organisations in fighting corruption. The delegation leader disclosed to the press that focus of the partnership is strengthening the links between the Supreme State Audit Office and all civil society actors working to ensure good governance in public affairs.
