The free classes were offered by the Douala III Subdivisional Council.

Residents of the Douala III municipality have once more benefitted from free tutoring in Information and Communication Technology (ICTs). The young and old who attended the classes organized by the Douala III Subdivisional Council through its Multimedia and Linguistic Centre, were on Thursday, March 15, 2012, issued end-of-course testimonials.

For three months, the beneficiaries were trained in 2D computing, secretariat duties, computer maintenance, computer network configuration, sage SAARI, English and Spanish. The out-going batch of students had the innovation that several women of the Women’s Wing of the governing Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (WCPDM) party of the municipality underwent the course.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Mayor Oumarou Fadil of the Douala III Subdivisional Council announced the offer of additional courses, such as, professional video editing, audio editing, digital editing and 3D technical drawing in the next session, whose start is yet to be programmed.

The students, he urged, should be useful on the job market and avoid allowing their skills to fallow. To English and Spanish students, he went on, are languages to ameliorate upon every day, especially as they are useful globally. He lauded efforts of the Council which has continued to offer the opportunity to usher its public to the global village despite limited financial resources.

A student, Mbappe Etienne, revealed her desires to use the testimonials to enter the job market, and if a suitable job is landed she would only challenge the position. To Christian Ndebi, another student, the training has just set him on the rails of fulfilling his dreams. “I really needed the skills in computing not only to be up-to-date with modern technology but to involve in projects that will be of help to my community.”
