The man who had killed a rider was caught in Ndokoti attempting to escape on the deceased bike. He was later set ablaze by a mob.

An armed robber was in the morning of Sunday, March 18, 2012, lynched to death on account of having stabbed to death a commercial bike rider in Ndokoti and snatching his bike. It was about 6 am on Sunday when an outrageous mob, principally commercial bike riders, fell upon a middle-age man around SOCAVER in Ndokoti. Security forces say they are withholding the names of the deceased bike rider, but the robber is yet unidentified.

The robber, who received snake beating, was bundled up and quickly conveyed to the Ndogsimbi Cemetery, though alive, they set him ablaze. Some members of the mob alleged robber was one of two bike snatchers who attacked and killed the “benskin” rider around SOCATUR that same morning.

Local Gendarmes explain that after killing the rider, the armed robbers snatched his bike and escaped. Hordes of “benskin” riders soon stormed the area, each of them ramming into the neighbour through various paths in a man hunt that yielded in a track down of one of the murderous robbers, not too far from the scene. It is reported that before the two robbers were discovered, the bike had soon ran out of fuel frustrating any further escape. The angry pursuers picked up one of the robbers (the one on the pillion) while the other disappeared.

The former accused of burying the sword into the rider, was on-the-spot tortured and later dragged to the cemetery and set ablaze. Before security forces arrived to forestall the escalation of vengeance, most of the Ndokoti mob had deserted the scene. Search to track down the other robber is on-going, but the population is called upon to collaborate, as well as to shun away from taking the law into their hands.
