Fenassco ‘A’ Games: Centre Region in the Lead

They are leading with10 medals, five in gold, two in silver and three bronze.

The defending champions, Centre region, are on the way to conserve the title which they won in Maroua last year. Barely two days gone into the ongoing Fenassco have ‘A’ Games, in Ebolowa, athletes from the Centre Region are already on a winning spree with ten medals to their booty; five in gold, two in silver and three in bronze. They are followed by the North West with seven medals, three in gold, two silver and two bronze. The West Region comes third with two gold medals and one bronze.

The medals were won in athletics 1,500m race for the men and women, 400m races, short put, gymnastics, long jump and high jump. It will be difficult for the other regions to catch up with the Centre, given the leadership margin and the fact the Centre region is good in collective sports. As to the reason behind the Centre Region’s domination in the games, the Regional Delegate for Sports and Physical Education said, athletes from the region benefit from better training facilities than their counterparts from the other regions.

The Far North Region, who made a strong showing during the previous edition of the games they hosted, is yet to rise from slumber. Meanwhile, the basketball competition this year is of special interest given that the competition is monitored by two officials of the international Federation of school games and the winner in basketball will represent Cameroon in the world school games to take place in Toulon-France.
