West Region: Agricultural Inputs to Boost Production

The Head of State’s gifts of 150 tonnes of fertiliser and 4,000 litres of pesticides were handed the farmers Wednesday.

Some 150 tonnes of fertilizer and 4,000 litres of pesticides have been offered to farmers in the West Region by President Paul Biya as a way of helping to re-launch and boost production. The gesture described by farmers as “President Paul Biya’s large-scale campaign for better economic recovery” took place in Bafoussam on March 28 and was presided at by the Permanent Secretary in the West Governor’s office, Nlend Likeng.

Handing over the various consignments to the Divisional Delegates of Agriculture and Regional Development, who will in turn distribute to the farmers at the level of their respective Divisions, Nlend Likeng urged the population to put the agricultural inputs into effective use so as to effectively boost output. He called on them to take advantage of the Head of State’s gesture to increase and also diversify their ago-production.

While enjoining farmers to embrace more realistic and profitable agriculture production approaches, Mr.Nlend equally urged the Divisional Delegates to help the farmers in the drawing up better programmes for, making sure they outline the various intervention strategies that will help reinforce the farmers’ capacities for a more sustainable agriculture.

The Regional Delegate of Agriculture and Rural Development for the West, Martin Tezanou said the Head of State’s gift will go a long way to accelerate agriculture development in the Region as well as consolidate the Head of State “Major Accomplishment” programme. “President Paul Biya’s gesture can be described as an ability to inspire, facilitate and contribute towards developing poor farmers,” he concluded.
