Accepting the award, Mr. Janneh said that he was most honoured by the recognition, especially as it comes as a result of doing what he loves to do – work for Africa’s development.
The author of the forthcoming book, Integrating Africa, Janneh was the only individual recipient of the prestigious award that also went to several institutions that have made significant contributions toward the realisation of NEPAD objectives.
It would be recalled that throughout the just-ended conference of African Ministers of Finance, Economy and Planning, the African Union Commission singled out Mr. Janneh for praise for what the Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Jean Ping called Janneh’s exceptional qualities in forging partnerships between major development institutions on the continent.
It was under Mr. Janneh’s leadership the ECA spearheaded the establishment of the nine clusters which are jointly coordinated by UN Agencies and African Union Commission to address all AU and NEPAD priorities.
