Students will have to cautiously manage time between end-of-year exams and public holidays.

The third term of the 2011/2012 academic year, which remains the shortest and most crucial, has begun. Pupils and students will be faced with a series of public holidays and end-of-year course examinations which will greatly determine their promotion to the next class or another level in their education. It will take good judgment for a student to sail through this academic term safely.

School campuses throughout the national territory have once more sprung to life for the third and shortest term of the academic year after two weeks of extracurricular activities to mark Easter holidays. As students follow the path leading to their various classrooms for the third term, it is time, for them to put in place strategies to be successful in their studies especially as they will be enjoying other public holidays throughout the term and end-of-year examinations which will definitely meet most of them unprepared. This is why it is advisable for students to spend less time talking about how they spent their Easter break and get to work immediately.

As effective classes for the third term began yesterday April 9, the seriousness that characterised certain classrooms in the nation’s capital should continue and be strengthened with individual study timetables for all pupils and students. After two weeks of studies for the third term, the educational body as well as other workers will have to go for a one-day break due to a public holiday to commemorate the International Labour Day on May 1. Pupils and students will later sit for the Common Entrance Examination and midterm examinations.

Thereafter, students in one way or another will have to be involved in a series of activities to celebrate the National Day on May 20 which will be followed by end-of-year examinations. While the academic term remains the most decisive in the academic year, spiced with a lot of extra-curricular activities, it is time for them to take good judgment to be able to come out with good grades this term particularly for those who did not perform well during the first and second terms.
