Home Movie: New Film Depicts Embezzlement

Produced by a Cameroonian, ‘Dirty Inside’ was recently screened in Yaounde.


Cameroon has been waging a relentless war against corruption and embezzlement of public funds by unscrupulous State workers and corporate officials. After the presidency, the media and the civil society, the home movie industry has joined the queue to throw more light on the cankerworm that retards development.

A new hoe movie ‘Dirty Inside,’ released in Cameroon, depicts the phenomenon of embezzlement in an entertaining story involving a Corporate General Manager, Jones, and his accountant, Alex. They are both suspected of embezzling State funds destined for assisting the poor. Behind their backs, two State agents begin an investigation to uncover the scandal even without service orders.

Speaking during the projection recently at the Goethe Institute in Yaounde, the movie’s director, Blaise Mbuh Baneh said ‘Dirty Inside’ has not yet been distributed or proposed for film festivals, but has officially been screened in some towns.

Shot in Yaounde, Sangmelima and Bamenda in January 2011, the movie was directed by Blaise Mbuh Baneh of Constiblaise Conception Movies and produced by Tah Markcell Awazi. The cast brings together a pool of uprising and talented Cameroonian-born actors such as Grace Njoya, Guy Merlin Njomo, Florentine Ngah, Antoine Marie Enyegue, Matthew Gwah and Umaru Faisal, amongst others.
