Youths to Receive Sponsorship for Own Projects

The 2012 award by JCI Douala Leader aims at encouraging entrepreneurship and self-employment.

Several youths from the Douala II Subdivision and other parts of the city of Douala have expressed eagerness to participate in the 2012 Best Business Plan award. The youths, who turned up to be briefed on conditions and requirements for participation in the award at the Douala II Subdivisional Council Wednesday, told Cameroon Tribune that they have passions which could only be realized through such opportunities.

With the collaboration of the Douala II Subdivisional Council, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Douala Leader will through the initiative fight joblessness, unemployment, while encouraging the culture of entrepreneurship among young people. JCI Douala Leader President, Aurelie Majo, the award should not just be seen as one in view of promoting talents within young people of the network, but also as one that has the education of young people to set up projects with financial support from banks as well as initiate them to good project management. The projects will valorize available human resources in the communities, offer economic and social development of the community and country and contribute to fight against joblessness and idleness, while enabling the young people attain brighter futures.

Ten best projects will be selected for competition at the international level, then sponsorship from donors with the support of JCI. Speaking on the requirements, the Project Manger, Elvice Taffou, people wishing to participate must be between 18 and 40 years of age, present a photocopy of their National Identity Cards, a Subscription form tenable at JCI head office, a description of the project, three copies of the projects on not more than 25 pages and FCFA 5,000 registration fee. Deadline for reception of application files is April 20, 2012 while prizes will be awarded to ten best business plans in September this year.

JCI Douala Leader targets to sensistise 1,000 young people on entrepreneurship, valorize at least five youths on job creation, offer professional internship for young graduates, help in creating access to financial support, follow up and assist awardees, spur the emergence of innovative projects in the communities, and as well as develop a partnership based on sustainability between JCI Douala Leader, councils, administration and companies.
