London Olympics, Count Down Begins

The British High commission yesterday organized a race to mark 100 days to the world event.


The British High Commission to Cameroon organized a sports event at the playground of Lycée Leclerc yesterday to symbolically mark the last one hundred days to the kick-off of the world greatest sports event. Speaking on the occasion, the British High commissioner to Cameroon, Bharat Joshi, said his country will not only be celebrating the Olympic Games but also the 60-year reign of Her Majesty, who is the second longest-serving monarch in the world. He said Britain is committed to organising the best Olympics ever disclosing that “We have built new venues. We have got out city ready, our transport system in place and we are looking forward to welcoming the world.”

The representative of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Cyprian Fonduffe, Cameroon is proud of the initiative taken by the British government and said the enthusiasm manifested by the athletes for the race, as a sign of appreciation. The race which was run in the minim, cadet, junior, senior and veteran categories, was run over a 100 metres distance commensurate to the 100 days to the London Olympics. Handicapped athletes also took part in the race since London will be hosting the Paralympic games, one month after the Olympics. The handicapped athletes were divided into visual impairment, physical handicap, mentally deficient. Medals were awarded to winners in each category and certificates of participation given to all competitors. Prominent among those present, was Cameroon’s roving Ambassador, Roger Milla, officials of the national Olympic and sports committee and other dignitaries
