The government empowers the expert to locate and track down scammers in cyber cafés.

The increase of knowledge in Information Technology is causing more destruction in the big towns in Cameroon now, especially the quarters made up of students. Most people have indulged in scamming others to make money through the internet. The scammers succeed to get people’s email addresses, write fake letters to their loved ones to get money. Most young people also extort money from foreigners through fake stories, soiling the image of the country. These scammers are mostly found in the university areas. Some students find this act as a lucrative business and they forsake studies;

To this effect, the government through the court of appeal in Bonanjo, Douala has given the relay baton to certain experts to put in their expertise in certain fields to assist government to curb crime wave. Among these experts was Emmanuel Monkam, specialist in information Technology and lecturer in the University of Douala, who took an oath as judiciary expert in cyber criminality and information systems.

Before now, Monkam has been using his expertise to track down scammers involved in cyber frauds. “All those arrested in Molyko, Buea were identified by me¨. He said he went to a cyber café in Buea and was able to pick out everybody who was using the internet to commit fraud. Not being noticed by the internet users he was able through his skills and knowledge in technology to notice people who were carrying out illegal transactions. Through his Forensic Laboratory he is able to detect the information which is fraud through the use of cell phones and computers.

After his swearing in, Monkam told CT his duty is to fight against cyber fraud through the use of computer and cell phones. This he said is to help the government to get into nooks and crannies which might take time for government to get in; he said he works with forces of law and other who get those found in such activities arrested. Being a lecturer in the university, he said he also works in collaboration with his students.
