Centre Region: New Sports Season Launched

It was marked by a swimming demonstration at the Catholic University on Saturday.

The new sports season for the Centre Region was launched last Saturday, April 28 at the campus of the Catholic university in Yaounde with a swimming competition. Representing the governor, Ngono Etene Blaise, said the move falls in line with the prescriptions of the Minister of Territorial Administration calling on Governor Eyene Nlom Moise to promote special cohesion and sports provides a forum for the mixture of cultures. He said swimming was chosen so as to be in line with the Head of State’s saying that there is no minor or major sport in Cameroon and more so, swimming is an Olympic sport that needs to be upgraded to the same level as the other sports disciplines.

The Delegate of Sports and Physical Education, Lucie Nanga, athletes from the Centre Region are doing well because of better organisation of the regional leagues and better sports infrastructure. As such, the Centre Region emerged first in the Fenassco ‘A’ Games and second in the Fenassco ‘B’ Games and equally has some athletes qualified for the Olympic Games in boxing. The brain behind the event was the Centre Regional League President of Swimming, Edima Ottabela.
