The Cameroon People’s Party (CPP) has commended supporters and the people of Makak, a locality in the Nyong and Kelle Division of the Centre Region for their support during the October 9, 2011 presidential election. The party Chairperson, Edith Kahbang Walla was in the locality last Saturday April 28.

Showing appreciation, Edith Kahbang Walla was also out in Makak to inform party supporters about changes in the country’s electoral system. “Our going to the field is to thank supporters for the confidence bestowed on the party during the last presidential election, reads a communique, announcing the Makak event. The party Chairperson confirmed in a telephone chat with Cameroon Tribune yesterday that “We went there to visit and also to say thank you for what they did and continue to do for the party.”

The hallmark of evolution in the country’s electoral system, the statement notes, was the voting in Parliament and promulgation by President Paul Biya on April 19, 2012 of the country’s new Electoral Code. Besides sensitising party supporters on the Electoral Code, CPP was in Makak also to ensure that grassroots party structures are efficiently carrying out activities as expected. The efforts the party Secretary General, Joseph Désiré Som I, confirmed is in line with moves to organise the party ahead of upcoming elections. The visit to Makak, Edith Kahbang Kah Walla pointed, was to officially install CPP Divisional Bureau which according to her is waxing strong.
